This is the beginning of something good!

Waking up knowing that Obama had won the election was inspiring. I turned on the TV to watch his acceptance speech for the first time. I didn't watch it live the night before because I was too busy celebrating with thousands of people in San Francisco's gay district, the Castro.

Celebrating Obama's election in San Francisco's gay district was bittersweet. Sweet because I wouldn't have to worry about all of the scandal that came along with the republicans in the white house. Bitter because Prop. 8 passed.

Obama's acceptance speech left me with a very good feeling. It struck a chord with me because he really made me feel like he understood my struggle.

"Where we are met with cynicism and doubt and those who tell us that we can't; We will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people...Yes we can!" were the closing remarks of his acceptance speech. These were just one of his quotes that that stood out for me but what it left me with was the fact that we all have a part to play during Obama's presidency. We cannot sit and be passive. We must be participants in this society. We cannot allow the government to take advantage of us like the Bush administration did. There was no trust, no honesty. People lost sleep wondering what escapades Bush would be up to next. We cannot let this happen again. Obama is our leader now and he needs our input.

The internet is my tool for change. Through my monthly posts of timely and relative issues Obama will be briefed on what is going on in the world and your words, advice and personal stories will push him to take interest and make the correct changes. The president should not be this unreachable figure, they should be there for the people and to carry out their wishes. Lets make the personal political again!
